Our skin does age, no matter what we do, but there are some simple things you can do to help minimize the impact of aging on your skin.

  • Always wear sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30 EVERY DAY, even if you have darker skin.
  • Minimize the time you spend in the sun, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. when the sun is most intense.
  • Smoking accelerates your skin’s aging process and increases wrinkles.
  • Alcohol increases the blood flow near the surface of the skin, giving you a flushed appearance.
  • A healthy diet full of nutrients equals a healthy body and healthy skin.
  • Remember when your mother warned, “Your face will freeze that way!”? There is some truth to that – when you frown and worry frequently, your face will conform to those expressions, causing more lines and wrinkles.
  • Being tired can make you look tired, with sagging skin and dark circles or bags under your eyes.
  • Hot showers and baths can strip your skin of necessary oils.
  • Gently remove makeup from under your eyes to avoid damaging that sensitive area of skin.
  • Right after washing your face, apply moisturizer to retain the moisture.
  • Moisturizers help your skin by keeping moisture inside or slowly releasing water into your skin.
  • Know your skin and watch for any changes. Ask your doctor about changes in moles or other skin patches.
  • The staff at Allura can help you answer any questions you have about your skin and its care. We also have relationships with dermatologists and other professionals to which we can refer you for situations outside our area of expertise.
