How Does CO2 DOT Therapy Work?

CO2 DOT Therapy works by scanning the treatment area and then lasering microscopic dots in a column pattern into the surface of the skin. Unlike traditional resurfacing methods, the space between the dots is left untouched, allowing for quicker healing and improved results. When the CO2 penetrates the skin, it triggers the body into producing collagen – resulting in a tightened surface and new skin growth. The treatment is fully customizable as the practitioner can alter the laser’s strength as well as epidermal depth reach. The treatment can be ablative (removing the top layer of skin) or non ablative (keeping the top layer of skin intact).

Are There Any Adverse Effects?

Common side effects include redness, swelling, itching, peeling and discomfort. These side effects resolve on their own in most clients within a few days. Acne and the formation of milia (tiny white bumps) can occur from the creams and bandages used to protect and promote healing. Rare side effects include scarring and turning of the lower eyelid. Additionally, the skin may remain a light shade of red/pink for weeks following the treatment as the skin heals. Due to the nature of ablative treatments, clients can expect longer healing times of any adverse side effects.

Do CO2 DOT Therapy Treatments Hurt?

Most clients describe the sensation of the treatment as pins and needles as we are creating microabrasion in the skin. A topical anesthetic is used to reduce discomfort at the time of treatment. Clients can expect to feel a greater level of discomfort during recovery. We recommend applying a cool pack to the treatment area to help with any pain. You may also take Tylenol (refrain from taking any other pain medications as they can cause excessive bleeding).

Should I Consider An Alternative to CO2 DOT Therapy?

During your consultation, we will determine if CO2 DOT Therapy is the right treatment for your desired results and if so, whether ablative or non-ablative treatment is best. Other laser laser treatments may be recommended.
