How Do Skin Peels Work?

Skin peels work by penetrating the epidermis (top layer of skin) and dermis (layer of skin below the epidermis) to remove layers of skin – revealing new layers of skin. Different acidic solutions are used depending on the level of the peel (light, medium, or deep) and your skin needs. The solution exfoliates your skin which peels off during the first week of the healing process. Once your skin has peeled, you will see fresh skin that is smooth, toned, and has less damage than the layers that have been removed.

Are There Any Adverse Effects?

Common side effects of skin peels include redness, dryness, tightness, itchiness, swelling, and peeling. Depending on the level of treatment that you receive, these side effects will subside in approximately 5-7 days. It is crucial to follow aftercare directions to reduce risk of additional but rare side effects such as hyperpigmentation and scarring.

Do Skin Peels Hurt?

Clients may feel a mild burning sensation during treatment, however most clients feel little discomfort.

During your consultation, we will discuss whether a skin peel is suitable and if so, which type is best for your skin concerns and desired results. Laser treatments may be recommended to provide more targeted results for areas of concern.

Skin Peel Types

Illuminize Skin Peel

This “light” very superficial chemical peel is ideal for first time peel clients. This peel increases skin glow and radiance, and improves clarity, color and skin texture. Patients achieve this enhancement of skin appearance with little to no downtime and/or visible peeling.

Vitalize Skin Peel

The “medium” skin peel helps fight the effects of aging, sun damage, and environmental stressors. This is our most popular peel as it addresses (and can be customized for) skin conditions such as pigmentation abnormalities, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, melasma, and photodamage. Clients notice results after one treatment however optimal results are seen after a series of three or more treatments.

Rejuvenize Skin Peel

Our Rejuvenize Peel is our “heavy” peel that uses an advanced formulation of peeling agents revealing fresher and healthier skin. This peel is effective for use on skin with sun damage, melasma, pigmentary changes and acne scarring. It provides noticeable results with just one peel improving fine lines, wrinkles, and skin roughness. Downtime includes substantial peeling for approximately 7-10 days.
