What is Crepey Skin?

Crepey skin is loose, thin skin that gets its name after crepe paper (tissue paper with a crinkled texture). Crepey skin can occur on various parts of the body but is most common on the face (especially around the eyes, jowls, and the stomach (post pregnancy or weight loss).

What Causes Crepey Skin?

The main culprit of crepey skin, much like other undesirable skin conditions, is sun exposure. Continuous, unprotected exposure to sunlight causes collagen to break down, reducing the skin’s elasticity.

Another factor is age. Collagen production decreases as we age, causing skin to become loose and wrinkled. Additionally, as we age our skin produces less protective oils that keep the skin moisturized and supple. The result is dry, wrinkled skin if an appropriate moisturization routine is not implemented.
