What are Hooded Eyes?

Hooded eyes occur when an individual has excess skin that sags down from the eyebrow bone to their lash line, creating a “hood” on the eyelid. Hooding makes the top eyelid look smaller as a result.

What Causes Hooded Eyes?

Hooded eyes are hereditary and, like many other conditions, can be exacerbated by the aging process. As we age, collagen production decreases, causing skin above our eyes to loosen and/or sag. Even if you didn’t always have hooded eyes, they may develop over time as the skin beneath your brow bone begins to sag and meet your lash line.

It is important to note that hooded eyes are different from droopy eyelids – which can impair a person’s vision. Hooded eyes just impact the aesthetic look of the eye area. Many people like to treat their hooded eyes to create a more bright-eyed look and even increase their freedom with eye makeup.
