KYBELLA® At A Glance
Kybella uses a series of localized deoxycholic acid injections to permanently remove stubborn fat cells. Deoxycholic acid is a synthetic form of acid that is naturally produced in the body by the liver to break down fat. The Kybella injections break down fat then the body’s lymphatic system cleans it up, resulting in a smooth, chin-to-jaw profile. Once fat pockets are removed, they do not come back in the area even if the client gains weight.
Kybella treatments are not suitable for removing excess skin below the chin – the injections are specifically designed to target fat cells.
Common side effects include temporary numbness at the injection site, redness, soreness and tenderness – all of which resolve on their own within 4-6 weeks of treatment.Potential irritation of the nerve that runs along the jawline resulting in temporary muscle weakness or slight muscular paralysis is uncommon, but completely resolves itself within weeks without any additional treatment in most clients.
Prior to injections, your chin area will be numbed to reduce any immediate pain associated with the injections. Experiencing slight burning sensation as the deoxycholic acidic solution enters pockets of fat is common. To manage post-injection pain and swelling, you may apply ice to the area. Most patients experience some soreness and tenderness in the area for 1-2 weeks.
