BOTOX® FOR MEDICAL USE
BOTOX FOR MEDICAL USE
While BOTOX® is widely known as a wrinkle reducer, it also is used to treat medical conditions like excessive perspiration or to help with chronic migraines. Consult one of our expert Providers at either our Fort Collins or Loveland locations to see if BOTOX is right for you.
BOTOX for Excessive Perspiration (Hyperhidrosis)
Hyperhidrosis, also known as severe underarm sweating is a medical condition teenagers, men and women experience. It occurs when sweat glands are overactive and work overtime to cool your body’s temperature.
If you have hyperhidrosis, you probably have to change your clothes frequently or layer your shirts, wear dark clothing to hide the circles of sweat, and avoid certain fabrics and styles of clothing. Chances are, you have already tried a variety of antiperspirants or deodorants, even prescription ones, yet you still sweat a lot.
The good news is that you have choices to treat this medical condition, and BOTOX is one of those choices. BOTOX is approved by the FDA to treat the symptoms of severe underarm sweating when medicines used on the skin (topical) do not work well enough. Best of all, BOTOX works for six to seven months.
How does BOTOX work? The BOTOX neurotoxin treatment helps control the symptoms of severe underarm sweating by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don’t receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.
BOTOX® injections are expected to temporarily stop the production of excessive sweat in the treated areas only. Sweat continues to be produced elsewhere. Where does the sweat that used to be produced in the armpit areas go? It doesn’t go anywhere or get backed up because the sweat simply is not produced in the areas treated with BOTOX®. The rest of your body is free to produce moisture normally.
Your BOTOX® treatment is not a cure; your symptoms will return gradually, and you will know when the time is right for another treatment. Your Provider will recommend a treatment strategy to ensure that you receive the best possible results from your BOTOX® treatment.
Will your insurance company cover the cost of BOTOX? Most insurance companies will authorize BOTOX® treatment for hyperhidrosis. Remember, approval is not automatic and not all insurance plans cover treatment. We are happy to provide you with a claim to submit to your insurance company. Though most insurance companies will cover all or a portion of the treatment, Allura Skin, Laser & Wellness Clinic cannot guarantee that all or a portion of the treatment will be covered.

BOTOX For Chronic Migraine Headaches
In addition to its cosmetic value, BOTOX® has been approved by the FDA to treat chronic migraine headaches in adults who experience a headache more than 14 days of the month. For this treatment, one of our qualified specialists administers BOTOX into seven specific sites on the head and neck. This results in dulling subsequent headache symptoms for up to three months. If you suffer from chronic migraines, talk to us about how BOTOX® may be able to help.
