Jessica Hanavan, R.N.
Jessica is a Colorado native who grew up in Pueblo Colorado. She has been a nurse since 2003 when she graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with her Bachelors of Science in nursing and a nutrition minor. She started her nursing career in pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital Colorado in the areas of neurosurgery, neurology, orthopedics and neurotrama rehab. She became a travel nurse and worked at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego for 5 years where she helped in the development of their first medical psych unit. Upon relocating back home, she again returned to Children’s Hospital Colorado doing telephone triage for the hospital and pediatric doctor’s offices in Colorado and surrounding areas. She became interested in a career in aesthetics through her own positive experience in the use of BOTOX® and fillers.
She has spent several years with her own business distributing health supplements and aiding clients in gaining overall better health, skin and weight loss. She is passionate about health and wellness education and enjoys healthy gluten free baking.
Jessica is friendly, outgoing and loves to put a smile on anyone’s face. When not working she loves to run and participates in local and out of state races. Jessica is artistic and takes a special interest in drawing, painting and refinishing old furniture or antiques. She is mom to her 15 year old fur baby named Slash or “Lil Son” as she refers to him! She loves spending time traveling Mexico or exploring beautiful CO on the motorcycle with her boyfriend Josh. She’s also a HUGE Denver Broncos fan!
We want to welcome our newest R.N. or our Resident Native Jessica Hanavan. Born and raised in green chili country of Southern Colorado, she combines her love of nursing with her natural creativity to help our patient’s look and feel their best. Plus, her green chili recipes are out of this world! Meet Jessica:
When I’m not working, you can find me running, cooking or hanging with my 15 year old: Slash the dachshund! Being healthy is really important to me so running is my outdoor passion to accomplish this goal. Enjoying the Colorado scenery is a bonus! In the last two years I’ve ran some amazing races. The 200 mile Wild West Relay was an adventure but also a challenge. I started in Ft. Collins with 9 other teammates and finished in Steamboat. I slept only 4 hours at a time before getting back up to pound the pavement! We made so many memories in those two days.
Traveling to wine country of Napa, California to run a half marathon was another adventure I won’t forget. Besides the laughter and fun of running with my nursing school best friends, we received a bottle of wine for finishing the race. So apropos! The scenery was beautiful but Colorado’s is still #1 for me.
My indoor pastime is cooking and baking gluten-free, paleo and keto recipes. I love taking regular recipes and altering their ingredients to create a healthier version that tastes just like “the real thing.” This year I made Christmas a little healthier with some gluten free chocolate peppermint cookies, keto-peanut butter cups and a keto-cheesecake for Christmas day. I often do baking tutorials on Instagram to share some of the ways I make every day cooking and baking healthy.
To say I’m a dog lover is an understatement. Slash and I have been together since he was a little one. Up until earlier this year, Slash’s buddy was a large Great Dane named Axl. The two of them together was amazing. Of course, Slash could run under Axl while playing in the living room! Losing Axl to cancer was hard on both of us but the ornery, spunky Slash of old returned with a vengeance. You can probably tell I’m a big Guns n’ Roses fan since I named them after the lead singer and guitar player.
Making people smile, either through my nursing or my creativity, is what makes me happy. Oh, and Slash begging at my feet when I’m in the kitchen!
