A Colorado native, Terra graduated cum laude from Colorado State University. I then spent 2 years doing type I diabetes research at the Barbara Davis Center prior to entering PA school at CU Denver in 2009.
When I graduated, I knew that I wanted to work primarily with female patients and I didn’t want to wear scrubs! I wanted to be able to see outside all day and not have to be on call! My first job offer was with a dermatologist in Greeley. The physician had told me that he was trying to get into aesthetics (the fun stuff), so I would be doing the head-to-toe skin checks, literally looking for skin cancer between people’s toes and he also wanted me treating the acne, warts and moles. I read a quote once that said “if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life.” So I thought to myself, “I want to do the fun stuff” so, here I am… and I haven’t “worked” since.
I have been with Allura for 5 years now and specialize in injectables, laser treatments and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.
When I’m not at the clinic, I am quite the thrill seeker. Last summer, I went skydiving for the first time. It wasn’t particularly on my “bucket list”, but I thought I would give it a whirl. Something very unexpected happened when I was signing the waivers acknowledging that I could die that day and I found myself in such a peaceful place knowing that if I DID die, I was in a place where I would be ok with that. I just felt that I had accomplished all of the things I have set out to do and that was such a powerful feeling! When I jumped out of the plane, I remember the cold air hitting my face. I was trying to focus on the horizon as they recommended and not the looming ground below me. The instructor I was jumping with told me that it was time to pull the chute and started his countdown. I thought to myself, “This is it!” But my story continues because within seconds, I looked up and a big beautiful grey and blue parachute opened above me…and I started to cry. It was an unexpected reaction and when my feet hit the ground I felt as if God was saying to me, “not yet, Terra. You still have work to do!”
I also just got back from surfing in Sayulita and I got to ride in Yamaha’s newest side-by-side.
I do also enjoy less risky things like CrossFit, traveling, and eating at fancy restaurants. I have an amazing man in my life (Brady) and he comes with 2 blessings, Devin (age 13) and Nelson (age 10). Being a mother figure is new to me, but my nieces, Autumn and Aspen, as well as my nephews, Blake and Cason, have trained me well!
I am always waiting for summer now that I have my home on Lake Loveland, but the renovations definitely keep me busy when it’s cold! The house needs a lot of work! It has green toilets and a spiral staircase (clearly the fad in the 1960’s), but I plan to update most of the interior to a modern industrial feel!
I am constantly striving to learn more about the aesthetics industry, and I attend advanced training often. My hope is to continue to grow within the company that I love so much.
